In two days, more than 20 Ukrainian artillery pieces, self-propelled guns and MLRS were destroyed in the special operation zoneThe armed forces of the Russian Federation have intensified counter-battery fighting in the zone of military special operation.
During the day, more than 10 MLRS, self-propelled guns and artillery systems were destroyed, including 777 howitzers manufactured in the United States, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on December 28. Successes in the fight against Ukrainian artillery have provided new complexes that allow you to instantly detect the coordinates of enemy guns, experts say. During the day, the Russian army continued to deliver massive fire strikes on positions, command posts, warehouses and areas of concentration of enemy troops.
Complexes against guns
In the area of Krasnogorovka in the Donetsk People's Republic, two US-made M777 artillery systems and a German-made FH-70 howitzer were destroyed in firing positions, from which residential quarters of Donetsk were shelled, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
— In the area of the city of Seversk, three Ukrainian combat vehicles of the Grad multiple launch rocket system were destroyed. Three Ukrainian howitzers "Msta-B" were destroyed in the areas of the settlements of Petropavlovsk, Kharkiv region, Berestove DNR and Chernobayevka, Kherson region. Ukrainian D-20 and D-30 howitzers were destroyed in the areas of the settlements of Georgievka and Maryinka of the DPR, — said the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.

A day earlier, as specified in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, 13 multiple rocket launchers, artillery systems and self-propelled artillery guns, including two American-made M777 howitzers, were smashed in the area of the SVO. In two days, the VFU lost more than 20 guns, MLRS and self-propelled guns.
Ukrainian formations are actively using the tactics of "wandering" batteries, military expert Alexey Leonkov told Izvestia.
— It is very difficult to fight with artillery in this case, — he noted. — Their MLRS and guns do not stand still, but, having struck, immediately leave their positions. Until recently, there were few special complexes of counter-battery warfare on the contact line, so we could not cope with the detection of enemy artillery. But during the time of its implementation, the Russian industry has done an excellent job and created several systems that were delivered to the line of contact in sufficient quantities. The new technology allows you to detect enemy positions in time and transmit their coordinates to shock artillery and aviation units. This explains the heavy losses among Ukrainian gunners — they began to be caught while firing and destroyed.
The expert recalled that the enemy uses artillery systems and MLRS to bombard peaceful cities and their infrastructure.
— These attacks cannot be called anything other than terrorist, — he noted. — And the destruction of Ukrainian artillery will save the lives of many civilians.
Unlucky M777

Rocket troops and artillery hit five control points of the VFU, 72 artillery units in firing positions, a warehouse with weapons and military equipment, 97 areas of concentration of troops.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 352 aircraft, 192 helicopters, 2,734 unmanned aerial vehicles, 399 anti-aircraft missile systems, 7,282 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 950 multiple rocket launchers, 3,737 field artillery and mortar guns, as well as 7,792 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed, Igor Konashenkov listed.
Successful counterattack
The Russian Defense Ministry told about the servicemen who showed courage and dedication in the battles.
Advancing into the combat area, senior sailor Artur Garifullin discovered a group of Ukrainian nationalists preparing an ambush. A battle ensued in which Arthur's BMP was hit by an anti-tank missile. He was injured and concussed, but was able to leave the car that caught fire, evacuating wounded comrades from it.
Having sheltered them in a safe place, Arthur continued the fight, destroyed five militants. Having suffered losses, a group of Ukrainian saboteurs fled. Arthur provided first aid to the wounded and organized their evacuation.
— The rest of the group went to help the unit in a given area. Thanks to the personal courage and endurance of Artur Garifullin, it was possible to stop the activities of the Ukrainian sabotage and intelligence group," the military department noted.

As part of the assault group, Sergeant Viktor Bozhenov covered the main forces of the unit. Despite fierce resistance, our servicemen captured the enemy's stronghold without loss.
The next day, the VFU units launched an attack, opening artillery fire on the positions of our troops. Having pulled out a wounded comrade from under fire, Viktor gave him first aid, and then engaged in battle with the enemy. During the collision, the sergeant discovered an enemy quadcopter and destroyed it with well-aimed fire.
Deprived of the opportunity to adjust the fire, the militants stopped firing, after which the Russian servicemen launched a counterattack and pushed the enemy back to their original positions. "Thanks to the high professionalism, courage and dedication of Viktor Bozhenov, our unit managed to repel the attack," the Defense Ministry stressed.
