The vehicles will be delivered in five versions: armored personnel carrier, transport, command and staff, medical and repair and evacuation. The vehicles are based on the latest production version of the BvS10, ordered for the Swedish Armed Forces. The option to the contract includes the possibility of supplying another 200 BvS10 machines to Germany in the period 2030-2032. Sweden earlier in 2021 and 2022 ordered another 167 BvS10 machines for itself under two separate contracts, with delivery in 2022-2024.
BvS10 (Bandvagn Skyddad 10) is the latest version of the family of two-link articulated tracked all-terrain vehicles, which has been developed for a long time since the Bv 206 by the Swedish company AB Hägglund & Söner (since 1988 - Hägglunds AB, since 2004 as part of BAE Systems as BAE Systems AB / Land Systems Hägglunds AB). The BvS10 was originally developed as an armored vehicle for the British Marine Corps and introduced in 2001, with the start of mass production in 2005. To date, the BvS10 has been delivered in several versions and modifications to the Marines and the British Army (152 vehicles, which received the British name Viking, in 2014-2016 99 vehicles were upgraded), the Netherlands Marine Corps (73 vehicles), the Swedish Ground Forces (153 vehicles since 2012, the Swedish military designation Bv 410), France (53 cars) and Austria (32 cars). In most cases, the purchased BvS10 machines replaced the old Bv 206 / Bv 206S transporters, Germany has now ordered these machines also to replace the Bv 206 transporters. The BvS10 is being manufactured at the BAE Systems Hägglunds plant in Ernshedlsvik in Sweden.
In August 2022, the US Army ordered BAE Systems 110 (with an option for another 53) two-link articulated tracked all-terrain vehicles Beowulf, which are an unarmored version of the BvS10. Beowulf vehicles were purchased under the Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program with delivery from 2023 to 2029 for the Arctic units of the US Army in order to replace the Bv 206 vehicles that have been in service with them since the early 1980s.
