Colonel-General Sergey Karakayev noted that the creation of a missile system for Russia means strengthening strategic securityMOSCOW, December 16.
/tass/. The Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) missile system will form the basis of a group of mine-based heavy missiles in the coming years. This was stated by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN), Colonel-General Sergei Karakaev.
"Today, such studies are being conducted, including by the Russian military-industrial complex within the framework of the state armament programs, which are aimed at increasing the combat capabilities of promising missile systems and ensuring strategic deterrence. One of the results of such work is the Sarmat missile system, which in the coming years will form the basis of the grouping of heavy stationary mine-based missiles, as well as the Avangard and Yars missile systems, which are entering the troops today," he said in an interview published on Friday with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper on the eve of the celebrated December 17 is the Day of the RVSN.
"In the current conditions, the creation of this missile complex for Russia means strengthening strategic security. For the Strategic Missile Forces, this means that work is ahead for us to rearm and study new equipment coming to the troops," Karakayev stressed.
Invulnerable "Sarmat"
According to the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, "Sarmat" surpasses its predecessor "Voivode" in some characteristics. According to him, the short upper stage ensures earlier separation of the combat units, significantly complicates the detection of the missile leaving the launch and its defeat by missile defense strike means. The energy capabilities of the Sarmat missile system make it possible to use an expanded range of combat equipment on the rocket.
"The creators of the Sarmat missile system managed to obtain unique characteristics of the new missile, the values of which suggest that the capabilities of existing and promising missile defense systems will simply be leveled," Karakayev said.
The Uzhur rocket men are rearming
The commander of the Strategic Missile Forces explained that the Uzhur division stationed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory was chosen for rearmament to the Sarmat missile system, since the technical capability of placing heavy-class missile systems with liquid ICBMs was provided in this compound. In addition, the division has an important strategic position, the commander added.
According to him, the decision to deploy the Sarmat missile system in other divisions will depend on the current military-strategic situation and the need to further increase the combat power of the Strategic Missile Forces.
About the new complex
RS-28 Sarmat is a Russian advanced ground-based mine-based missile system with a heavy liquid ICBM capable of carrying nuclear charges. It has been developed since the 2000s by specialists of JSC "V. P. Makeev State Missile Center" (Miass) as a replacement for the P-36M2 "Voevoda" complex, which has been in service with the Strategic Missile Forces since 1988. The Sarmat ICBM was developed at the V. P. Makeev State Rocket Center (part of Roscosmos), the manufacturer is the Krasmash plant. According to experts, the Sarmat ICBM is capable of delivering a separable warhead weighing up to 10 tons to anywhere in the world both through the North and South Poles.
