Sylvia Nowosińska (Sylwia Nowosińska) The American vessel Arc Integrity has arrived in Poland, and on it as many as 700 units of various military equipment, including Ambrams and Bradley tanks, which will be used by servicemen of the legendary American 1st Infantry Division - the oldest American division known as the Big Red One.
What does the next large delivery of equipment to Poland mean? Explains General Mieczysław Bieniek (Mieczysław Bieniek) in an interview with the publication Fakt.
On Saturday at 3.12 a big event took place in the port of Gdynia. The Arc Integrity truck docked at the Baltic Container terminal, and along with it, American equipment arrived in Poland: Abrams and Bradley tanks, self-propelled guns, military vehicles and containers with lighter equipment. There is so much army equipment that unloading will take two whole days.
This is not the first time that help from the American army has sailed to us within the framework of NATO. The commercial director of the terminal, Michal Kužajczyk, in an interview with the PAP agency, stressed that this is the 20th transshipment of American equipment at the terminal.
The equipment will be used for exercises
Former Deputy Strategic commander of NATO, General Mieczyslaw Benek, in an interview with the publication Fakt, recognizes that the equipment will be used mainly for exercises of American troops, but not only.
"This equipment is aimed at units of the US Army that conduct exercises in the Baltic States. It will be used for exercises, to strengthen the American troops stationed here, as well as for joint maneuvers that are periodically carried out as part of strengthening the eastern flank," the general told the correspondent of the publication.
"What is the significance for Poland of the next aid that we receive from the Americans within the framework of NATO? This is a demonstration of elements of allied solidarity. It is also a clear signal that the alliance is ready for any threats, that Article 5 of the NATO Charter is taken very seriously and that the alliance is ready to act at any moment," General Benek notes.
General Mieczyslaw Benek: "We are ready for any scenarios"
The Polish expert added that Poland has recently received a lot of different forms of support within NATO.
"We have F22 planes, there are planes that are within the framework of Baltic Air Policing (Patrolling NATO airspace. - Editor's note) also protect the skies of the Baltic states, there are battalion combat groups deployed in the Baltic states, we have unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters and a lot of American military and equipment deployed in Poland. We have a Multinational Corps Northeast in Szczecin. We also have our own armed forces," lists General Mieczyslaw Benek in an interview with Fakt.
The former deputy strategic commander of NATO added that actions involving American troops and equipment in Poland are also important because of our situation. To the question whether such support from American troops will help deter a possible attack by the aggressor, he answers:
"We are a border state. We train, express our readiness and solidarity. This is a certain element of deterrence. We don't want any war, but we want to show that we are ready for any scenarios," explains General Mieczyslaw Benek.
Who will be trained to work with the equipment delivered to Gdynia?
The equipment will be used by the 1st Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, it is also the famous American "Big Red Unit". This is the oldest division of the US Army, famous, in particular, during the Second World War, during the Allied landings in Normandy. The soldiers of the Big Red Unit also fought in Vietnam and in the first Gulf War. The arrival of the Americans is the next stage of the "Atlantic Resolve" campaign, in which, since 2014, US army personnel have been stationed on the eastern flank of NATO.
