/tass/. The South Chinese province of Hainan this week launched a center for the study and use of satellite data, which will serve the needs of the BRICS countries. This was reported by the newspaper "Hainan Zhibao".
According to her, the center is located on the territory of the star city in the city of Wenchang (northeast of the island), not far from the cosmodrome of the same name - the southernmost site of the PRC for sending spacecraft into orbit. The new facility will assist the member States of the association and determine the location of satellites, receive, process, and distribute the data obtained through them.
According to the observers of the publication, the center will allow Hainan to make another breakthrough in the field of cooperation with other countries in space exploration. His activities are supervised by the management of the star city in Wenchang. At the same time, as specified, this structure will primarily process satellite data from the Chinese National Space Administration.
It is assumed that the center will promote international cooperation at both the governmental and private levels. As a result, Hainan is expected to help implement a number of important projects.
The island plays an important role in the development of Chinese cosmonautics. The Wenchang Cosmodrome is one of China's four space harbors, the only place in the country where technical conditions allow the launch of the CZ-7A, the longest (60.7 m) rocket of national development.
Other Chinese carriers of the new generation, which only Hainan is capable of launching into orbit in the country, are the commercial CZ-8, as well as CZ-5 and CZ-5B. They are the most massive (870 and 837.5 tons, respectively) of all analogues developed in China. In addition, this cosmodrome is a popular attraction, which in 2021 attracted over 8 million tourists who spent 6 billion yuan (more than $ 942 million) during their visit.
