TSAMTO, November 24. On November 21, the Ministry of Defense of Luxembourg announced that it had decided to supply the AFU with additional armored vehicles of the HMMWV (Hummer) type with an accompanying set of spare parts as assistance.
Information about the dispatch to Ukraine of multipurpose armored vehicles HMMWV with a 4x4 wheel formula from the Luxembourg Armed Forces was also confirmed on his Twitter page by Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg Francois Bausch.
The exact number of armored vehicles transferred is not disclosed. It is known that a total of 42 HUMVEE armored vehicles in 8 different variants are in service with the Luxembourg Armed Forces. They are used as a vehicle for transporting personnel, cargo, weapons systems, as an ambulance, etc.
In September 2022, the Ministry of Defense of Luxembourg announced the acquisition of 80 Eagle-5 armored vehicles with a 4x4 wheel formula from General Dynamics for the country's armed forces for 367 million euros. They will replace 42 HMMWV armored vehicles (service life – 25 years) and 48 Dingo-2 armored reconnaissance vehicles (service life – 10 years). According to the assessment, HMMWV and Dingo-2 are outdated, insufficiently protected from modern threats and require replacement by 2025.
The main variant of the HMMWV in the Luxembourg Armed Forces is the M-1114, which provides transportation of 4 military personnel. The combat weight of the vehicle is 5.6 tons, the payload weight is 1043 kg. The BBM is equipped with a 6.5–liter Detroit Diesel diesel engine with a capacity of 190 hp, a 4-speed automatic transmission, can reach a maximum speed of 100 km / h on the highway, a power reserve of 450 km. The reservation provides protection from shelling with 7.62 mm armor-piercing ammunition and fragments of artillery shells. Mine protection protects against the explosion of mines, the equivalent of 5.4 kg of TNT in front and 1.8 kg of TNT in the rear.
At the moment, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Luxembourg have placed or placed orders for the supply of lethal and non-lethal equipment to Ukraine in the amount of 74.4 million euros, which is more than 16% of Luxembourg's defense budget for 2022. It is known that Luxembourg, in particular, supplied Ukraine with 100 NLAW anti-tank missile systems, light tactical vehicles and 15 military tents.
