Avangard is a new Russian strategic missile system with a hypersonic gliding cruise combat unit.
"The infrastructure of the positional area has been prepared for the deployment of the next missile regiment, which includes, in addition to the structures of the combat launch complex itself, places for the preparation of duty shifts, combat duty and rest of personnel," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
"In the Orenburg Region, work continues on the re-equipment of the Yasnensky RVSN compound to the Avangard mine-based missile system. Currently, the rocket is being loaded into a mine launcher," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The implementation of the measures planned for 2022 to rearm the Strategic missile Forces will increase the combat capabilities of the ground component of the strategic nuclear forces to fulfill the tasks of strategic deterrence," the military said.
In December 2019, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the first missile regiment armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles with a hypersonic Avangard combat unit was put on combat duty near Orenburg.
