Pilots of multi-purpose Su-35S fighters of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) during combat sorties destroyed Su-25 and MiG-29 aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) during a special operation to protect Donbass (SVO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"On the other side there was a pair of Su-25 and one MiG-29. Found at a range of about 200 km. They escorted them, waited for a convenient moment when the acceleration would begin, when they would go on a combat course to attack. They also accelerated due to the advantage of altitude, the advantage in the range of defeat. They worked, highlighted the goal, as everything should be. They did not enter the air defense zone," said the commander of the aviation link of the Su―35S multipurpose fighters, Klim.
According to the serviceman, after the missile launches, the radar tags disappeared. Further, the intelligence confirmed: two planes were shot down, the cover fighter left the escort zone.
The Russian Aerospace Forces are attacking the AFU aviation equipment, radar stations, as well as air defense systems. For this purpose, guided missiles of different classes "air–to-air" and "air–to-surface" are used.
Combat sorties are carried out daily at any time and in any weather. Before takeoff, the aircraft are thoroughly checked by engineers and pilots.
With the help of advanced avionics, as well as sighting systems and homing missiles, it is possible to maintain air superiority. It is noted that the opponents do not dare to go into close combat with the Russian Aerospace Forces. Therefore, the latter mostly use rockets.
"The tactics used have shown their effectiveness. Among the ground targets, air defense, its suppression and destruction remain a priority for us. Also, the conquest and retention of air supremacy, which, in principle, we are doing very well. We do not let the enemy get off the ground, and when they meet, we shoot them down. There is already more than one confirmed case," Klim assessed the situation.
Earlier, on November 13, the pilot of the Su-35S of the Russian Aerospace Forces with the call sign "Peresvet" destroyed an enemy target during a combat sortie in the area of its own. The onboard radar station showed the presence of an enemy in the range. After the permission of the command, the pilot fired a missile towards the enemy and successfully hit it.
The Su-35 is a fifth—generation multi-purpose fighter, which is considered one of the most maneuverable aircraft with variable thrust vector. At the same time, it is capable of carrying up to 8 tons of combat load. By eliminating manned and unmanned aerial objects at long, medium and short range, the Su-35 ensures complete dominance in the sky.
Russia continues its special operation to protect Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup in Ukraine. The decision to hold it was made on February 24 against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the shelling of Ukrainian troops.
