SpaceX has launched a satellite Internet service in airplanes. This is reported on the Starlink website .
The description of the service states that Starlink Aviation will provide on-board speeds of up to 350 megabits per second with low latency. The company will start providing Internet access in 2023. A set of terminals and access points was estimated at 150 thousand dollars, the subscription fee will be from 12.5 to 25 thousand dollars per month. The company offered to book a set for $5,000.
The description of Starlink Aviation says that the Internet in airplanes will be available for the duration of the entire flight — unlike competitors' offers. SpaceX clarified that this was made possible due to the fact that the satellites are moving in low Earth orbit.
The Verge journalists clarified that in most cases airlines use air-to-ground systems, so the Internet is only available during overland flights. Also in this case, the Internet speed does not exceed 10 megabits per second.
The appearance of the Starlink service in aviation became known in April. The journalists found out that Internet access will first appear on the planes of Hawaiian Airlines and JSX.
