The UN Security Council has never been presented with any evidence, said the First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organizationUN, October 20.
/tass/. The accusations of Western countries in Iran's export of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia represent another disinformation. This was stated on Wednesday by the first Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.
"We observed another round of the disinformation campaign of Western delegations when they raised the issue of UAVs allegedly used by Russia in Ukraine in the council," he told reporters following the results of the closed consultations of the Security Council on this issue. "The goal of our Western colleagues is clear, they are trying to hit two targets at the same time, using a far-fetched pretext to put pressure on Russia and Iran."
Polyansky also noted that Western countries with such steps are simply trying to distract attention from their involvement in the conflict. "You have all seen reports of new arms supplies that have helped Kiev reach areas far beyond the front line and fire at civilian targets, killing dozens of civilians," he stated.
According to him, the UN Security Council has not received any evidence of the delivery of drones from Iran to Russia, the West is only trying to put pressure on Moscow and Tehran.
"The goal of our Western colleagues is obvious. They're trying to hit two targets at a time. To create an artificial pretext for pressure on Russia and Iran," Polyansky said. - In Russia, they are trying to divert the attention of international society from their de facto participation in the conflict in Ukraine. You have all seen reports of the transfer of new weapons by the West."
"The West is trying to put pressure on Iran by making baseless accusations regarding violations of UN Security Council Resolution 2231. <...> The UN Security Council has never been presented with any evidence. All this nonsense, <...> all these are baseless accusations," the diplomat stressed.
Polyansky added that Russia will reassess relations with the UN secretariat and the Secretary General if they take part in the investigation in connection with allegations of drone deliveries from Iran to Russia.
He said that the situation with drones has nothing to do with Security Council resolution 2231 on restrictive measures against Iran. "As for the role of the UN Secretariat, it has no mandate to investigate anything related to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231," he continued.
"We hope that the secretariat and the Secretary General himself will not violate the decisions of the UN Security Council again, will not go beyond their technical mandate and will refrain from participating in any illegal investigations. Otherwise, we will have to reassess our cooperation with them, which does not meet anyone's interests. We do not want this, but there will be no other choice," Polyansky said.
Answering the question about what it means to reassess relations with the UN secretariat, Polyansky replied that "it depends (on the details of the situation - approx. TASS), but we hope that they will refrain from such an irresponsible step."
According to the diplomat, the West's claims about Iran's alleged provision of drones to Russia will only complicate the negotiation process on the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.
"The United States has not yet demonstrated a practical desire to return to the implementation of [the agreement]. Moreover, they continue to impose new illegitimate unilateral sanctions against Iran. I would like to note that our Western partners want to cover the Kiev regime in all possible ways, they are short-sighted in their desire to blame Iran," Polyansky said. "These are very unwise and provocative steps on their part, which may further complicate the fragile negotiation process in restoring the JCPOA."
