Kiev's receipt of Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams tanks seems unlikely due to the possible inefficiency of the machines. The publication of Military Watch magazine called the reasons for the possible refusal to supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with modern armored vehicles.
It is noted that modern tanks can be captured on the battlefield. This will allow Russia to study machines made in Germany and the USA. Also, tanks may not be transferred due to fears that they will not be effective enough in combat.
The publication recalls that Turkish tankers on Leopard 2 suffered losses in Aleppo province in 2016. It is emphasized that the enemy used "far from the most modern" weapons. In turn, the crews of Abrams tanks suffered losses during the fighting in Yemen.
"The third factor is the cost, since even older versions of the M1 and Leopard 2 are much more expensive than cars already supplied to Ukraine, and the former use gas turbine engines with high fuel consumption and high operating costs," the newspaper writes.
In addition, these tanks are incompatible with the ammunition of vehicles operated in Ukraine. Also, Abrams and Leopard 2 are heavier than Soviet tanks, which will not allow the use of existing bridges.
Earlier in the publication Military Watch noted that the M-55 tanks supplied to Ukraine are equipped with a 105 mm caliber gun, for which the APU has practically no shells.
