SUKHUM, 18 Sep - RIA Novosti. The Russian military shot down more than 30 drones during exercises in the mountains of Abkhazia, the press service of the Southern Military District (SE) reports.
The exercises involved anti-aircraft missile systems "Osa-AKM", "Strela-10" and portable air defense systems "Igla".
"The servicemen of the anti-aircraft missile units of the military base of the Southern Military District of Abkhazia during the training on fire control of air defense hit more than 30 reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles of a conditional enemy," the report says.
The air defense calculations of the compound worked out the tasks of reconnaissance, capture, escort and conditional destruction of air targets at altitudes up to 2 thousand meters, flying at an average speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
"To simulate the drones of a conditional enemy, the servicemen used the Orlan, Zastava and Granat aircraft. The tasks of occupying and masking the starting positions, organizing a communication and control system, bringing equipment from a marching position to a combat position were also completed," the Southern Military District clarified.
