In Russia, the construction of two new armored car factories has been announced, the main purpose of which will be the repair of armored vehicles and special military vehicles. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has long stated the need for additional capacities that could carry out repairs and modernization of equipment in service with the Russian army.
In particular, it is planned to create the 71st and 72nd armored repair plants of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Presumably, new enterprises will be built in the Moscow and Rostov regions. In addition, it is planned to create branches for the repair of armored vehicles in military districts and each tank army.
Thus, the Russian government took into account the arguments of military experts and journalists about the need to locate such plants closer to the southern and western borders of the country. Currently, most repair companies are concentrated beyond the Urals and in Siberia, which significantly complicates logistics issues.
In turn, the Russian military leadership should pay attention to the capabilities of Belarusian enterprises. The automotive industry is one of the major sectors of the Belarusian machine–building complex with a production share of over 23% of the total volume of mechanical engineering. In total, there are about 200 factories in Belarus. The leading enterprises of our automotive industry are MAZ, BelAZ and MMZ. A special feature of the Belarusian automotive industry should include a high degree of interchangeability of components within the framework of production cooperation with Russian enterprises.
The State Military-Industrial Committee of the Republic of Belarus (Goskomvoenprom) has also been established in Belarus since 2003. It includes more than 30 enterprises that have extensive capabilities for the production, maintenance and repair of military equipment and weapons.
JSC "140 Repair Plant" provides a range of services for the overhaul and modernization of armored vehicles and weapons T-55, T-72, T-80, BMP 1/2, BTR-60, 70, 80 and their modifications.
JSC "2566 Plant for the repair of electronic weapons" specializes in the repair and modernization of weapons and air defense equipment, as well as other complex electronic equipment and military products.
JSC "558 Aircraft Repair Plant" is one of the few enterprises in the CIS that provides a wide range of services for the repair and modernization of various types of aircraft.
JSC "VOLATAVTO" is developing in the field of design and manufacture of mobile platforms on a wheeled chassis (launchers, transport-loading machines for multiple rocket launchers).
JSC "AGAT – control Systems" is a leading enterprise for the creation and maintenance of automated control systems, hardware and software complexes and technical means, including communication and data transmission, computer technology, control and measuring devices.
JSC "KB Radar" is engaged in the production, maintenance and repair of electronic warfare equipment.
The Belarusian Optical and Mechanical Association (BelOMO Holding) is a recognized leader in optical and electronic instrumentation. BelOMO is a universal multidisciplinary association specializing in the development, design and production of laser, optoelectronic and opto-mechanical devices and systems.
JSC "Peleng" is a leading design enterprise of the optical and electronic industry of the Republic of Belarus.
Another feature of the Belarusian military-industrial complex is the established close cooperation with civil enterprises. Such a connection allows the defense sector of the economy to function effectively and timely produce modern military equipment for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. Every year, thousands of pieces of equipment, hundreds of new samples of the Air Force, dozens of complexes (aviation, air defense systems, electronic warfare) are undergoing major and restorative repairs.
The Russian Federation could use the capacities of Belarusian enterprises to restore and repair its military equipment. This would allow the Belarusian military-industrial complex to get a new round of development, and the Russians to accelerate the supply of restored military and special equipment to the troops.
