In India there are strict restrictions on the procurement of defence products abroad. They were introduced in order to create favorable conditions for the development of the domestic defense industry, but now interfere to replace aging military equipment with modern samples.
On this subject, says the American Agency Bloomberg, citing a senior Indian officials.
- the material of the Agency.
Sources claim that by 2026, the Indian military is not to be missed helicopters, and by 2030 – fighters, as the validity of armed equipment expires. Of course the domestic defense industry began to produce excellent Tejas lightweight fighters, but their production is limited to only eight pieces per year.
When in 2014 Narendra modi took over as Prime Minister, he made enormous efforts to develop its own defense industry, thereby creating jobs in India and reducing monetary costs budget for the purchase of the necessary arms and military equipment abroad.
But, as often happens, good intentions have led to negative results. Domestic defense industry is not yet able to fully satisfy the needs of the army and Navy, and imports restrictions apply.
Thus, says Bloomberg, one can observe that the program of import substitution in the Indian defence industry has failed.
