Vladivostok. September 8th. INTERFAX - The project to build a new large-tonnage shipyard in Kronstadt is an interesting and timely initiative, the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov told Interfax on the sidelines of the WEF.
"In a situation where we are now facing the task of sharply increasing (orders) at a competitive price for the construction (of ships), of course, Rosatom's offer looks very interesting. I am very glad that this initiative has been proposed for implementation together with us, which means that we will be able to provide personnel support to this project and see our prospects," Rakhmanov said.
He recalled that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has formed a total volume of orders at Russian shipyards until 2035 in the amount of more than 1.5 thousand units.
"From this point of view, the project seems very interesting to us, because most of our shipyards are currently squeezed by urban construction and they have nowhere to develop in the city center. Therefore, this is a logical project, a timely project, in which there is already a root customer for these steamships in the person of Rosatom. These three factors combined make it possible to conclude that the project will be economically viable," the head of USC said.
"The financial estimate will appear based on the design results," he said.
In August, the head of the Rosatom state Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, at a meeting on the development of shipbuilding, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to instruct the departments to work out production, technological and financial issues of the project for the construction of a new large-tonnage shipyard in Kronstadt by December 2022.
The first stage, according to the head of Rosatom, will require financing according to the model of public-private partnership, in the next two stages it is planned to finance the project at the expense of own and borrowed funds with elements of concessional lending.
