CB "Rubin": the nuclear submarine "Arcturus" will be reduced by 20 percent due to new weapons
KUBINKA (Moscow region), Aug 16 - RIA Novosti. The strategic nuclear submarine of the future fifth generation due to the improvement of missile weapons will have a smaller displacement by 20%, its provisional name is "Arcturus", the time of appearance is the second half of the XXI century, a representative of the Central Design Bureau (CCB) "Rubin" told RIA Novosti.
Rubin showed its vision of the possible future of strategic missile submarines at the Army 2022 exhibition: the concept project of the Arcturus missile submarine.
"Continuous improvement of missile weapons makes it possible to reduce the number of missiles on board while maintaining the combat potential of the ship. Due to this, as well as due to the change in architecture, the Arcturus will have 20% less displacement than modern missile carriers. Its length will be 134 meters, width – 15.7 meters, the number of crew – about 100 people," said the representative of Rubin.
According to him, "the ships of the new project will replace the Borey-A series of missile carriers no earlier than the second half of the century."
