According to the Minister of Defense of the Republic Jaroslav Nagy, Slovakia estimates the aircraft at €300 million and expects to receive American-made supersonic fighters instead.
PRAGUE, August 14. /tass/. Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy denied on Sunday reports that appeared in recent days in the media and distributed on social networks that the republic had transferred supersonic MiG-29 fighters in service with the national Air Force to Ukraine.
"They are in Sliac (an air base in Central Slovakia - approx. TASS), " the Bratislava newspaper Pravda quoted the politician as saying. "They will guard our airspace until the end of August."
Slovakia, according to the statements made earlier by representatives of the leadership of the republic, plans to transfer the MiG-29s in the national Air Force to Ukraine free of charge. They have been on duty for the protection of the country's airspace for the past 30 years. At the end of August, according to Nadia, the fighters will be decommissioned and can be sent to the Kiev authorities. Bratislava estimates these planes at €300 million and expects to receive American-made supersonic fighters instead.
Meanwhile, the head of the Slovak Defense Ministry stressed on Sunday that "so far no decision has been made" on the direction of the MiG-29 to Ukraine.
