On August 11, the Russian Defense Ministry told about the serious losses suffered by two mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in battles with allied forces. According to the ministry, the enemy lost half of its personnel. On that day, aviation destroyed the Ukrainian radar guidance of the S-300 anti-aircraft complex and shot down a Mi-24 attack helicopter in an air battle. Experts note that there is a struggle on the front line with enemy artillery, the suppression of which is necessary to move forward.
Suppression of artillery
On August 11, the Russian Armed Forces continued to strike at combat units and the military infrastructure of Ukraine.
— As a result of the active offensive actions of the Allied forces, more than 50 percent of the personnel in the 14th and 66th mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Artemovsky and Avdeevsky directions were eliminated. Mass desertion and unauthorized abandonment of occupied positions by nationalists are being recorded," said the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.
The strikes of operational-tactical, army aviation, missile troops and artillery destroyed 20 command posts of brigade and battalion units, a warehouse of rocket and artillery weapons, a locator for the guidance of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and 264 areas of concentration of troops during the day, the military department said. In the areas of the settlements of Konstantinovka, Seversk, Zaitsevo, Novoselka, Ocheretino, Vodiane of the Donetsk People's Republic and Trudovoye of the Zaporozhye region, eight ammunition depots were blown up.
During the counter-battery struggle, three platoons of Grad multiple launch rocket systems, two artillery platoons of Acacia guns and three platoons of D-30 howitzers in firing positions were hit.

— The fight against enemy artillery has now come to the fore in terms of importance for breaking through fortified areas and eliminating the threat to the cities of the republics, — military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia. — As experience shows, its suppression is a prerequisite for a successful offensive. NATO countries have transferred many artillery systems to Ukraine, both Soviet-made and their latest long-range models. This allowed Kiev to partially make up for the losses suffered in the previous months of the special operation and continue resistance.
Drones turned out to be invaluable for hunting for artillery systems. They help to find enemy artillery in the rear, where it hides after a series of shots. In this case, it becomes a target for strikes with high-precision weapons of sea, land and air basing. Drones detect enemy guns and directly in positions. There, long-range multiple launch rocket systems are being practiced on them. Modern UAVs highlight targets for guided missiles "Krasnopol" with lasers. This turned out to be one of the most effective ways to fight the Ukrainian artillery. With their help, it is possible to hit both towed and self-propelled guns. Kamikaze drones are also used on the front line, which can not only detect, but also immediately hit an enemy gun until it changes position, the expert said.
Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Mi-24 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force in an air battle over the Dnipropetrovsk region on August 11, the Defense Ministry reported.
During the day, Russian air defense destroyed seven unmanned aerial vehicles in the areas of the settlements of Brigadirovka, Grakovo, Suligovka, Andreevka, Babenkovo, Zavody and Lipchanovka in the Kharkiv region, as well as four multiple rocket launchers near the city of Lisichansk.

Armed formations of Ukraine continue to strike at nuclear power facilities, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. On August 11, units of the 44th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the village of Nikopol fired 152-mm guns at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
— As a result of the strikes, the thermal power plant for its own needs and the equipment of the spray pools of the cooling system of nuclear reactors were partially damaged. Only thanks to the skillful, competent and effective actions of the Russian Armed Forces units to cover the nuclear power facility, the critical infrastructure of the NPP was not damaged, and the operation of the reactors was not disrupted," said Colonel—General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation.

In addition, on August 10, artillery units of the 110th separate mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the village of Avdiivka shelled the territory of a brewery in Donetsk, where there were dangerous chemicals used in the production process. As a result of the shelling, the 40-ton capacity of the cooling system was damaged, from which more than six tons of ammonia leaked. After the explosion, a toxic cloud formed, which spread over an area of two square kilometers. One employee of the company was killed, two received severe burns of the respiratory tract. The operational actions of the units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Donetsk People's Republic managed to eliminate the consequences of an artillery strike and prevent casualties among the local population.
The Defense Ministry stressed that this is not the first deliberate shelling of radiation and chemically dangerous objects by Ukrainian armed formations, as a result of which a real threat to the life and health of thousands of civilians is created.
— We regard these criminal actions of the Ukrainian authorities as acts of terrorism. This is another proof of genocide by the criminal Kiev regime of the civilian population of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, fighting for their independence from Ukrainian Nazism," Colonel—General Mikhail Mizintsev said.
Fight with drones
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation told about the soldiers and officers who showed courage and dedication during the special operation.
Major Andrey Savelyev was covering the Russian group of troops. Ukrainian nationalists with the help of UAVs fired at the main position of the anti-aircraft division of Savelyev. Having assessed the situation, Andrey led his subordinates out of the shelling to a reserve position, avoiding losses among personnel, weapons and military equipment. After that, turning into battle formations, he gave the command to subordinate units for radar detection, tracking of enemy weapons and their further destruction.
— Thanks to the courage and determination of Major Savelyev and the professionalism of his subordinates, all air targets in the division's area of responsibility were eliminated, — the military department said.

Yevhen Chudan-Ool's unit was liberating a settlement from Ukrainian nationalists when the enemy opened fire on Russian servicemen with small arms and mortars. During the battle, Yevgeny destroyed four units of enemy equipment and eliminated 12 Ukrainian militants with targeted fire. Finding a wounded comrade, he gave him first aid and evacuated a colleague to a safe place.
The selfless and courageous actions of Private Yevhen Chudan-Ool made it possible to successfully oust Ukrainian nationalists from their positions, the Defense Ministry noted.
Senior Sergeant Artem Marchin cleared bridges, crossings and roads for the passage of columns. Moving along the route in the direction of one of the settlements, Artem discovered and neutralized nine enemy tripwires. Later, while conducting engineering reconnaissance, the senior sergeant found the locations of two mortar crews and transmitted the coordinates of the enemy's positions to the command, after which an artillery strike was inflicted on them.
