Over the past few days, the United States has twice established the fact of the appearance of a Russian aircraft in the air defense identification zone of the state of Alaska. This is reported by CNN.
According to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a Russian aircraft entered the Alaska air defense identification zone twice on Monday. In both cases, we are talking about a reconnaissance aircraft. NORAD took F–22 fighter planes into the air to intercept a Russian reconnaissance aircraft.
At the same time, the Pentagon did not consider the very fact of the appearance of Russian aircraft in the Alaska Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) to be an escalation in relations between the two states. The American military department did not make any statements about this event.
Recall that the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a joint aerospace command of the United States and Canada and is responsible for aerospace security in the North American region, including from the state of Alaska. The Russian Armed Forces are considered in this direction as the main potential opponent of the US Armed Forces. Therefore, any flights of Russian aircraft near the American borders are carefully monitored and recorded.
On the other hand, American reconnaissance planes and AWACS planes are regularly in the sky over the Black Sea, conducting reconnaissance and collecting information about the actions of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the Russian armed forces in the area of the Crimean Peninsula. The collected information is then transmitted not only to the Pentagon, but also to the command of the Ukrainian armed forces. Against this background, the appearance of a reconnaissance aircraft in the visibility zone of the American air defense does not really look like a serious incident.
