At the very beginning of the XXI century, an interesting self-propelled artillery installation was created on the chassis of the Belarusian all-terrain vehicle MZKT-8007 "Volat", which was almost forgotten. However, even now this combat vehicle looks quite modern and in terms of its main characteristics is close to Western wheeled self-propelled guns.
However, although the Minsk chassis was used, the developers were specialists of the Chinese company Norinco.

Perhaps then, 20 years ago, they did not have their own reliable all-terrain vehicle and they decided to use a foreign design.
The Type 89 gun, also known as the PLL-01, can hit targets with a conventional high-explosive shell at a distance of 30,000 m, an active-jet hits at 39 m.
At the beginning of the 21st century, wheeled self-propelled guns were not so popular, the military preferred tracks. Therefore, the tracked version, known as the PLZ-45, was purchased by several Arab countries.

Interestingly, later the People's Liberation Army of China adopted a more advanced self-propelled gun PLZ-05, which installed a more advanced version of the PLL-01. It was reported that it can hit the enemy already at a range of 53,000 m.
