They are carrying out earthworks at 10 sites, said Oleg Kosenkov, head of the Main Directorate of the Railway Troops of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation
MOSCOW, August 6. /tass/. Over 1,300 military and civil servants of the Railway Troops of the Russian Ministry of Defense are involved in the reconstruction of the Ulak-Febralsk section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM). This was reported to TASS by the head of the Main Directorate of Railway Troops of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Oleg Kosenkov, in connection with the professional holiday of military railway workers celebrated on Saturday - the Day of Railway Troops.
"More than 1,300 personnel and more than 1,000 pieces of equipment are involved in the implementation of the state task at the assigned reconstruction facilities of the Ulak - Fevralsk BAM section with a length of 340 km from the Russian Ministry of Defense," he said.
The General recalled that with the adoption by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation of the decision to involve Railway troops to perform tasks at the BAM reconstruction facilities, it became possible to use the units of these troops of four military districts for their intended purpose "in conditions as close as possible to combat."
According to him, the units of the Railway Troops in 2022 are carrying out excavation work at 10 sites and are ready to turn around work at nine more sites. As of the beginning of August, the total volume of earthworks performed exceeds 2.3 million cubic meters, while the construction of the roadbed is about 1.4 million cubic meters, which significantly exceeds the planned figures. All work is carried out with the use of regular units, service equipment and own railway rolling stock, which is used to transport rocky soil to hard-to-reach areas.
At three sites (the Tungala-Kamnega siding, the 2905 siding on the Dugda - Nora siding, the Drogoshevsk - Rocky siding), the filling of the embankment of the roadbed has been completed in full, the completed works have been transferred to the customer, finishing works are being carried out.
Kosenkov also said that a special train "Vostok" is involved in reconstruction work.
"Since April 2022, to increase the supply of rock soil to the reconstruction site from Verkhnezeisk station to Apetenok station, where there are no quarries with suitable soil and the possibility of transporting rock soil by road, a special train of the Railway Troops of the Eastern Military District "Vostok" was formed," he said.
According to him, the Vostok train included two shunting locomotives, a special escort car and six dump trucks. "The composition of the freight train is small due to the limited place of loading and unloading of rock, but the train is maneuverable and effectively copes with the tasks," the general said. He noted that the tasks assigned to the Railway Troops will be completed on time and with high quality.
Construction teams of specialized civil transport universities and cadets of the Military Institute of Railway Troops and Military Communications are also involved in the reconstruction of the BAM.
