MOSCOW, Aug 4 — RIA Novosti. A bill was submitted to the State Duma proposing to oblige foreign states to submit a request for the passage of a warship through the internal sea waters of the Northern Sea Route, the corresponding document was posted in the electronic database of the legislative body.
It is assumed that the appeal should be sent through diplomatic channels no later than 90 days before the expected date of passage.
The author of the bill was the Russian government.
At the end of July, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a new Maritime Doctrine. In it, the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic are classified as vital areas for ensuring Russia's national interests in the World Ocean. They are directly related to the development of the state, the protection of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the strengthening of defense, critically affect the socio-economic development of the country. The loss of control over them could jeopardize the national security and the very existence of Russia.
In addition, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035, the total amount of funding for its activities will amount to almost 1.8 trillion rubles.
