They associate the conduct of these "military operations", namely, such a term is used in the PLA, with the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
Recall that Pelosi arrived in Taipei at 17:45 Moscow time. There she was met by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, Joseph Wu, and the "highest representative of the United States" (in fact, the Consul General or even the ambassador) Sandra Oudkirk.
The Chinese military command announces "non-nuclear missile launches" off the coast of Taiwan, including from the eastern side of the island. To do this, the warships of the naval forces of the PLA (People's Liberation Army of China) will be involved.
Against this background, Pelosi herself said that she "did not violate China's sovereignty" and added that her visit to Taipei "is an act of support for 23 million local residents in their struggle for democratic values."
