We continue to talk about missile systems manufactured in North Korea. Last time in the article "The vaunted HIMARS is a firecracker in comparison with it: 600-mm MLRS from the DPRK", multiple launch rocket systems were considered. This time we will talk about the KN-02 Toksa or Hwasong-11. Ballistic missiles are a local modification of the famous Soviet 9K79 "Dot" (SS-21 Scarab according to the NATO classification).
According to some reports, in the 90s, within the framework of military-technical cooperation between Syria and the DPRK, Damascus handed over to its partners a certain number of "Points".
The specialists of the "Country of Morning Freshness" were not only able to copy them, but also significantly improved them. Thus, the upgraded model already has a range of up to 140 km and a warhead weight of 485 kg.
Another version, with a lightweight warhead up to 250 kg, is capable of hitting up to 160 km. High accuracy is ensured by the use of an optical correlation homing head.
The rocket launcher is mounted on the chassis of a three-axle car, similar to those produced by the Minsk Automobile Plant.
It is known that such complexes were purchased by the Syrian government forces. At the same time, work on further improvement continued in the DPRK. According to some reports, currently there are options that can destroy objects at a distance of 230 km. In addition, there is probably already an anti-ship modification with a range of up to 300 km.
Following the "Dot" - KN-02 Toksa, missiles have now been created that look similar to the American ATACMS and Russian Iskanders. We will talk about them in subsequent publications.
