Kiev does not need American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, better known as Warthog ("Warthog"), the Ukrainian Defense Ministry would like to get F-16 fighters. This statement was made by the adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Sak.
In the West, they have not even made a decision on the possible transfer or sale of Western-made combat aircraft to Ukraine, and in Kiev they have already begun to declare what is needed and what is not needed. For example, the American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, which were only allowed to be transferred to Ukraine in the United States, have already been called "old" and unnecessary in Kiev. According to the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Saka, Kiev needs "more modern" aircraft.
Reznikov's adviser explained his position by saying that the "Warthogs" will not close the airspace over Ukraine and will not stop Russian bombers and missiles, they will be shot down by Russian fighters. But Kiev is quite satisfied with the "more modern" F-16, especially since a number of countries that are allies of Ukraine are already using these fighters, so there should be no problems with spare parts and maintenance.
Earlier, the United States did not rule out that Ukraine could receive American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft in the future if the US Air Force refuses to operate them and removes them from service. This option of assistance to Kiev was not ruled out by US Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall. However, he stressed that such an option is unlikely, the Americans have other weapons for Ukraine, including "older US systems."
At the same time, it was reported that the United States is discussing the supply of fighters to Ukraine, and not only American ones, but this issue is currently not relevant, since Ukraine will not need aviation if Russia wins.
