Germany has supplied Ukraine with the first three self-propelled 35 mm anti-aircraft guns Gepard, in the near future Kiev expects the arrival of another twelve German ZSU. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov.
Germany has promised to deliver fifteen Gepard ZSU to Ukraine, three of them have already crossed the border and are on Ukrainian territory. According to Reznikov, the delivery of the remaining installations is expected by the end of the month. The Ukrainian minister especially stressed that anti-aircraft installations come with ammunition, as earlier in Germany they announced a problem with the supply of shells to Swiss guns installed on the anti-aircraft complex.
- said Reznikov.
The epic with the transfer of the Gepard ZSU to Ukraine has been going on since April of this year. Initially, it was planned to transfer 50 Gepard 1A2 ZSU to Kiev, removed from long-term protection, but everything got up after it turned out that Germany did not have the necessary amount of ammunition for anti-aircraft guns, and Switzerland, which is a manufacturer of shells, refused to supply them to Ukraine. Later this month, the Germans found an independent manufacturer in Norway who agreed to supply the requested number of 35X228 mm shells for the 35 mm Oerlikon GDF automatic guns. But the number of anti-aircraft installations planned for transfer to Kiev has decreased from 50 to 15.
The Gepard 1A2 ZSU has a firing range of up to 5 km, and an altitude of up to 4 km, the radar detects targets at a range of up to 18 km.
