A ballistic missile "Serpentine" with hypersonic combat equipment is being developed for the Russian Navy (Navy). This was reported by TASS on July 12, citing sources close to the military department and the defense industry complex.
The new rocket has been in development for a long time. Its task is to defeat large surface targets, primarily aircraft carriers, informants said.
According to another source, the Serpentine can enter service with coastal missile units of the Navy. In terms of characteristics, this missile is similar to Chinese missiles of the same class DF-21D and DF-26 with a flight range of up to 4 thousand km.
On June 25, the head of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin announced that Roscosmos enterprises had started mass production of Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles.
On May 22, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Sergei Karakayev, said that in the coming decades it is unlikely to be possible to create means to intercept the latest Russian ballistic missile "Sarmat".
As the military noted, it can fly through the North Pole, if necessary, it is possible to plot a trajectory through the South Pole.
