The Central Research Institute "Burevestnik" (part of the Uralvagonzavod concern of the Rostec State Corporation), as part of the state defense order, handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense a batch of 2B24 82 mm mortars. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the company.
"The design of the 2B24 mortar has a number of features that favorably distinguish it from world analogues. So, the outer part of the lower half of the barrel has a finned screw profile, which serves as a radiator and improves the temperature regime of the barrel, which makes it possible to provide the required rate of fire with mines of increased power," the press service quotes Igor Maslennikov, acting director of production of the enterprise.
He added that the design of the 2B24 base plate allows circular firing from any type of soil. The use of modern materials has made it possible to reduce the weight of the mortar, as well as increase reliability, simplicity and safety of operation.
The press service added that the small mass and the ability to quickly disassemble the mortar provides 2B24 maneuverability, and the ability to transport the mortar by calculation forces allows it to be used when conducting combat in hard-to-reach places.
Development work on the creation of the 2B24 mortar was completed in 2019. The mass of a mortar with a sight and a fuse is 45 kilograms. 2B24 is a development of the 2B14-1 "Tray" mortar.
In May, the Zvezda TV channel reported that production of the 32B01 Spica combat module had begun in Russia. The module with an automatic cannon, a machine gun and a grenade launcher was developed by specialists of the Central Research Institute "Burevestnik".
