The Russian high-precision missile "Product 305" allows the helicopter to hit targets without entering the enemy's air defense zone. The rocket can operate in the "fired and forgotten" mode. Military expert Alexey Leonkov told RIA Novosti about this.
"Unlike those missiles with which our helicopters are now armed, they have slightly different methods of guidance, and when there is an air defense cover, a helicopter with a "Product 305" can not enter the air defense zone, but at the same time hit targets," Leonkov said.
According to him, the inertial navigation system and the homing head of the "Product 305" missile allow the ammunition to operate in three modes. The missile is capable of finding targets using an infrared homing head, which detects and hits targets not visible to the pilot, and helicopter detection systems. Also, the missile can be used in the "shot and forgot" mode, when the munition captures the target before launch and flies into it independently.
"The range of its application is 14.5 kilometers, while the speed at which it flies to the target is about 250 meters per second… The mass of the warhead is about 26 kilograms, it is high-explosive, which makes it possible to hit both enemy manpower and armored and lightly armored targets," the expert added.
Earlier, a source told RIA Novosti that during a special military operation in Ukraine, Russia uses the "Product 305" missiles. Ammunition was used from the Mi-28NM attack helicopters.
In November 2021, Sergey Mikhailov, Deputy General Director of the High-Precision Complexes Holding, announced that export modifications of the Mi-28MN and Ka-52M helicopters will receive a new Product 305E missile.
