Nuclear-powered submarine missile cruisers of the Northern Fleet launched a missile attack on the ship grouping of a conditional enemy in the Barents Sea. This was announced on June 20 by the press service of the Northern Fleet.
A complex target position simulating a detachment of landing ships of a simulated enemy was successfully hit by Kalibr and Granit cruise missiles at a distance of about 200 km.
The event involved the crews of the nuclear submarine missile cruiser Severodvinsk of project 885 "Yasen" and the nuclear submarine missile cruiser Smolensk of project 949A "Antey". The crews of the boats practiced joint firing, the main feature of which was the simultaneous destruction of the target by different types of cruise missiles with different speed and flight characteristics.
It is reported that the rocket firing was carried out successfully, the weapon confirmed its high reliability. The area of the exercise was closed by the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces for civil navigation and aviation flights.
On February 19, the Kremlin announced the successful conduct of the exercise of the strategic deterrence forces, during which ballistic and cruise missiles were launched. The forces and means of the Aerospace Forces, the Southern Military District, the Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Black Sea Fleets took part in the exercise.
