Moscow. June 17. INTERFAX - A detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet has entered the Philippine Sea, where it conducts air defense exercises and searches for "enemy" submarines, said Ilya Kolesnikov, head of the press service of the Pacific Fleet.
"A detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet consisting of the control ship Marshal Krylov, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, corvettes and the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleev entered the Philippine Sea to fulfill their tasks," Kolesnikov said.
The Philippine Sea is an inter-island sea of the Pacific Ocean located near the Philippine Archipelago. From the northwest, the sea is bordered by Japanese islands.
According to Kolesnikov, the ships continue to operate in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) after the completion of major maneuvers of the Pacific Fleet with the participation of more than 40 ships and about 20 aircraft.
"Currently, a detachment of ships is practicing joint maneuvering in areas of the Philippine Sea with the implementation of shipboard air defense training, searching for submarines of a conditional enemy and interacting with crews of naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet," the head of the press service said.
He stated that "the performance of tasks by a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet in the Asia-Pacific region is carried out as part of planned fleet combat training activities."
