Moscow. June 13. INTERFAX - The Russian Northern Fleet conducted exercises in the Barents Sea to search for and destroy a submarine of a simulated enemy, the press service of the fleet reported on Monday.
"The large anti-submarine ships Severomorsk and Admiral Levchenko, as part of a ship search and strike group, worked out the destruction of a submarine of a conditional enemy in the Barents Sea," the press service of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation said in a statement.
The Russian military said that one of the multipurpose nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation performed the role of a conditional enemy submarine.
"Her crew was tasked to overcome the anti-submarine line unnoticed and attack the enemy. During the confrontation, the submarine was conditionally destroyed by a joint torpedo attack of anti-submarine ships," the Northern Fleet said in a statement.
According to the Russian military, the exercise in the Barents Sea took place for several days. After their completion, the ships Severomorsk and Admiral Levchenko returned to their home base.
The Russian exercises took place against the backdrop of major NATO Dynamic Mongoose anti-submarine maneuvers, which begin in the North Atlantic on Monday. As reported, three submarines, 11 ships, 16 anti-submarine aircraft from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Canada, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal will take part in them.
