Dozens of Israeli fighter jets took part in maneuvers over the Mediterranean Sea last night, involving flights over long distances, refueling in the air and hitting long-range targets. So the Israeli Air Force conducted exercises to simulate strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
This is reported by the Israeli newspaper The Times of Israel, referring to the statement of the IDF press service.
Earlier this month, the journalists of the publication learned that the maneuvers, which are part of the large-scale exercises "Chariots of Fire", will simulate a massive strike on Iran, including its nuclear facilities.
In light of the growing uncertainty about Iran's return to the 2015 nuclear deal, the reason for which is the long-stalled negotiations between Tehran and world powers, the Israel Defense Forces have stepped up preparations for an attack on facilities related to the Iranian nuclear program.
The IDF chief of Staff, Aviv Kohavi, announced early last year that he had instructed the Israeli military to begin developing new plans for an attack on Iran. And by September, he said that the army had "significantly accelerated" preparations for action against Tehran's nuclear program.
