MOSCOW, May 31 - RIA Novosti. Uralvagonzavod has supplied the Russian Defense Ministry with a batch of upgraded commander combat reconnaissance vehicles BRM-1K with firepower like an IFV, the concern said.
"The Rubtsovsky branch of Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation JSC (part of the UVZ concern is part of Rostec), within the framework of the state contract, carried out major repairs with the modernization of the BRM-1K commander combat reconnaissance vehicles. The armored vehicles have passed all types of running and firing tests under the supervision of military representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation," the UVZ Telegram channel notes.
The concern announced the signing of a contract with the Ministry of Defense for the modernization of the BRM-1K during the Army 2020 forum.
On the new BRMS, the basic combat compartment of the vehicle was replaced with a unified combat compartment of the BTR-82A. In addition, the engine of armored vehicles, communications equipment and on-board electronics were replaced. Additionally, during the modernization, the combat vehicle was equipped with navigation equipment, reconnaissance and surveillance devices.
According to the UVZ, "the modernization of the BRM-1K is aimed at improving the effectiveness of tactical reconnaissance in modern operations, by increasing the tactical and technical characteristics and firepower, the combat vehicle has reached the level of combat effectiveness of modern IFVs."
The commander's combat reconnaissance vehicle BRM-1K is designed to conduct military reconnaissance day and night as part of reconnaissance groups to a depth of 50 to 80 kilometers from its troops. It provides detection of camouflaged targets at any time of the day in conditions of limited visibility, determination and transmission of target coordinates, confident defeat of open and sheltered manpower, as well as protection of the crew and internal equipment from large-caliber machine guns, small-caliber automatic guns, fragments of shells of ground (field) artillery.
To force water obstacles afloat, armored vehicles do not require preliminary preparatory work.
