VLADIVOSTOK, May 29 — RIA Novosti. Commander of Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) Sergey Karakaev called the shortened active section of the trajectory and the energy power of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile one of the many differences from the Voevoda missile.
The first launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile under the state testing program from the Plesetsk cosmodrome silo launcher took place on April 20, 2022. The Defense Ministry then noted that the design characteristics at all stages of the flight were confirmed, the training combat units arrived in the specified area of the Kura test site in Kamchatka. Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin called the successful launch a "gift from NATO."
After the completion of the test program, the Sarmat missile system will enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces. In the Uzhursky missile compound in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the main missile regiment is already being prepared for rearmament with a new missile system. The promising Sarmat complex will replace the Voevoda missiles.
The new missile has expanded the range of combat equipment both in terms of the number of combat units and types: it can carry hypersonic gliding units. "Sarmat", as noted in the Ministry of Defense, is capable of hitting targets at long ranges using various flight paths, and is guaranteed to overcome any existing and promising missile defense systems. The new carrier is the most powerful in the world and has the greatest range of hitting targets, which will significantly strengthen the combat power of Russia's strategic nuclear forces.
