Moscow. May 28. INTERFAX - The Russian Northern Fleet conducted a new test launch of a hypersonic missile, it was carried out by a ship in the Barents Sea at a sea target in the White Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
"According to objective control data, the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile successfully hit a sea target located at a distance of about 1000 km. The flight of the hypersonic missile corresponded to the specified parameters," the report says.
"Today, the lead frigate of Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov fired a hypersonic cruise missile "Zircon" from the Barents Sea at a naval target position located in the White Sea. The rocket firing was carried out as part of the testing of new types of weapons," the military said.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed a video of the launch of a hypersonic missile from a ship.
The Admiral Gorshkov frigate participates in the tests of the new Russian hypersonic missile "Zircon" (Tactical Missile Armament Corporation).
During the entire test cycle, the Zircon rocket was successfully launched almost 10 times from a surface ship, twice from a submarine, the Russian Northern Fleet reported on December 31, 2021.
The Russian military conducted the first test launch of the Zircon missile from a nuclear submarine on October 4, 2021.
It is expected that in the near future "Zircon" will be adopted. Serial deliveries to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are planned for 2022, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko reported.
Last August, the Russian Defense Ministry signed a contract for the supply of "Zircons". Last November, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that this contract is of a long-term nature.
In February 2019, in a message to the Federal Assembly, Putin said that the Zircon missile would be capable of hitting ground and surface targets at a range of over 1,000 kilometers at a speed of about Mach 9.
