The American company Oshkosh Defense intends to install new Cockerill CPWS combat modules on its JLTV SUVs, armed with the M242 Bushmaster automatic cannon of 25 mm caliber. Tests are planned to be carried out in the near future.
According to the company, European countries armed with JLTV tactical vehicles are interested in installing a combat module on them capable of fighting both enemy infantry and tanks. Such a request was received by the company against the background of events in Ukraine. It is stated that such armored vehicles are the best suited for fighting in urban conditions.
The four-door version of the JLTV, which is in service with both the US Army and the Marine Corps, was chosen as the testing platform. As part of the tests, it is planned to install a Cockerill CPWS combat module on the SUV with a 25 mm M242 Bushmaster automatic cannon, as well as a 7.62 mm machine gun, a smoke grenade launcher and two Javelin ATGMs on the side of the tower. The advantage of the uninhabited Cockerill CPWS tower is the ability to recharge from the inside.
Tests in Europe will begin this summer in Spain and in Belgium in the fall.
Note that the American module somewhat resembles the new Russian uninhabited combat module BM-30-D "Spica" (32B01) for installation on armored vehicles escorting and guarding special cargo KamAZ-43269 "Shot" (4x4), as well as in a lightweight form on armored vehicles K4386 "Typhoon-Airborne" (4x4). The installation of the "Spokes" on other Russian armored vehicles is not excluded.
The Russian module is equipped with a 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 7.62mm PKTM machine gun (6P7K) and an automatic grenade launcher AG-30. A modern sight with television and thermal imaging channels and a laser rangefinder is installed. The variant of the module for the Typhoon-Airborne is produced without an automatic grenade launcher.
