US congressmen wanted to reveal "one of the greatest mysteries of our time", for this purpose, on May 17, for the first time in several decades, open hearings will be held on cases of the appearance of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). This is reported by TASS .
Chairman of the special committee on intelligence of the lower house of the US Congress, Democrat from California Adam Schiff said that the public still has a lot to learn about unidentified aerial phenomena and possible risks to national security.
The hearings will be held in one of the subcommittees specializing in counterintelligence, the fight against terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The speakers will be US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Ronald Multry and Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott Bray.
Adam Schiff stressed that there should be full transparency in the issue of UFO surveillance, intelligence and the US federal authorities should play a key role in ensuring that the reports are presented in the right light and sufficiently analyzed.
"The purpose of the hearings is to give the public the opportunity to get information about one of the greatest secrets of our time directly from experts in this field and leaders of the intelligence community, as well as with the help of truth and openness to break the vicious circle of excessive secrecy and speculation," the congressman said.
The chairman of the subcommittee, Andre Carson, noted that the speeches of Maltrey and Bray will allow "to learn everything you need" about UFO-related incidents. He added that the US authorities should give a serious assessment and respond to all such cases, especially those that are not fully understood.
After the open hearings in Congress, a closed session will be held, where officials will be able to speak out without the risk of making classified information public.
In November last year, it became known that the Pentagon announced on the creation of a new unit in the structure of the US Department of Defense to investigate data on unidentified flying objects. The work of the reorganized Group for the Identification and synchronization of the approach to air objects (AOIMSG) will be monitored by the military and representatives of the special services.
