On Friday, the Kostroma Military Academy of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S. K. Timoshenko held solemn events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of its formation.
The anniversary was attended by the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Governor of the Kostroma region Sergey Sitnikov, graduates of the Academy. General Kirillov presented the educational institution with a high state award - the Order of Kutuzov. The university was awarded him for his services in strengthening the country's defense capability and training qualified personnel. "This is a well-deserved assessment of the hard work of the entire team, its contribution to improving the combat capability of the Armed Forces," Kirillov said.
He stressed that today the military Academy is not only an educational institution, but also a major scientific center on the technology of organic substances, special materials, means of radiation, chemical and biological protection of troops and the environment, and many other areas. The university trains specialists for all branches of the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies. When training there, combat experience gained during real combat operations is used. Kirillov noted that combat experience can not only be applied in practice, but also transmitted. The general added that 20 percent of the teachers at the Academy are doctors of sciences, more than 200 people are candidates of sciences in various fields. The entrance competition to the academy this year will be five people per place.
The award ceremony of the best military personnel of the Academy was also held. On the day of her 90th birthday, an apple orchard was laid on the territory of the university in honor of servicemen participating in a special military operation. The women's councils of all the garrisons of the RCBZ troops will implement this large-scale project. Such improvement of military camps provides for the creation of "Family Parks" there.
Guests, veterans and cadets of the Military Academy laid flowers at the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union S. K. Tymoshenko, whose relatives were also at the celebration. After that, an open day was held at the university as part of professional orientation work. And the solemn part of the holiday was held at the concert and exhibition center "Gubernsky".
On this day, residents and guests of Kostroma were able to see samples of modern and promising weapons and military equipment of the Russian Armed Forces Defense Forces, including the newest chemical reconnaissance vehicle RHM-9 based on the Typhoon-K car. Currently, it is the most advanced special equipment in its class and will enter service with the troops this year.
The holiday ended with a concert of the Alexandrov Song and Dance Ensemble.

The Military Academy of the Troops of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection named after Marshal of the Soviet Union S.K. Timoshenko is the only educational institution that trains specialists of this profile. It was founded in 1932 and is now one of the oldest military educational institutions in Russia.
Among the teaching staff of the Academy there are participants of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of combat operations in Afghanistan, participants of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus and liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
Representatives of about two dozen countries of the world study at the academy.
Now the university has a modern material and technical base. All its academic buildings are equipped with the latest laboratory equipment, instruments, office equipment, and technical training facilities. There are 41 laboratories (including the nanotechnology laboratory), 10 computer classes, an optoelectronic mini-polygon, an educational and training complex for conducting classes in the buildings. Not only practical classes with the use of special equipment are conducted at the academy's training ground. Here, within the framework of the International Army Games, the "Safe Environment" competition is organized annually.
