MOSCOW, May 13 - RIA Novosti. The strategic submarine missile carrier "Prince Oleg" (project 955-A) during training pierced the Arctic ice with a torpedo and created a wormwood to practice surfacing before launching a missile strike, the press service of the Northern Fleet reported on Friday.
"In preparation for swimming in the Arctic Ocean basin, the crew fired a torpedo in order to form a polynya for surfacing in the Arctic ice. Torpedo firing was successfully carried out in one of the closed ranges of the Northern Fleet in the Barents Sea," the navy told reporters.
As a rule, the crews of strategic missile submarines (RPKSN) carry out ascents in a polynya in the Arctic ice to practice training and combat missile launches from a surface position.
Earlier, the crew of the Prince Oleg was trained at the base, passed the tasks of the combat training course at sea, and also worked out combat training tasks to counter the submarines of a conditional enemy and ice swimming.
Also, the crew of the Prince Oleg missile Submarine conducted successful torpedo firing during anti-submarine exercises in cooperation with one of the nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet in the same Barents Sea.
"Prince Oleg" is the second hull of the upgraded project of nuclear submarines of the fourth generation "Borey-A". The cruiser was built at Sevmash in Severodvinsk. On December 21 last year, the naval flag was raised on the ship.
