The Baltic will soon become a NATO sea. This is the opinion of Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevics.
The Latvian Foreign Minister said this in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times.
- says Rinkevics, commenting on the plans of Finland and Sweden to join this military-political bloc.
According to the Minister, their entry into the alliance means a gradual transition under its control of the entire Baltic Sea area.

The foreign ministers of the other two Baltic states, Lithuania and Estonia, also believe that the accession of Stockholm and Helsinki to NATO will help strengthen the alliance and strengthen security in the Baltic region.
It is assumed that Finland and Sweden will be accepted into the alliance in the very near future. Yesterday, the head of the Finnish state Sauli Niinisto and the Prime Minister of this country Sanna Marin announced that they intend to urgently apply for membership in NATO. In this way, the statement says, Helsinki will strengthen both its security and the security of the alliance.
The Reuters news agency, citing competent sources, claims that Brussels will not delay the process and will quickly accept Helsinki and Stockholm into its ranks. The reason for such a rush, according to Western media, is a change in approaches to pan-European security due to the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
