TSAMTO, April 27. The christening ceremony of the sixth K-130 class corvette took place at the Blohm + Voss company in Hamburg ("Braunschweig"), intended for the German Navy. The corvette received the name "Cologne".
As reported by TSAMTO, five K-130 class corvettes are currently in service with the German Navy ("Braunschweig") of the first series, staged from 2008 to 2013. Their main tasks are the fight against surface ships and means of enemy air attack, the defeat of ground targets in the coastal zone, escort vessels, control of the coastal waters, the state border and the exclusive economic zone.
On September 12, 2017, the German Federal Armament, Information Technology and Maintenance Agency (BAAINBw) signed a contract for the construction of five second-series corvettes with the ARGE K130 consortium, which included Lurssen Werft GmbH & Co. (main contractor), ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH and German Naval Yards (GNY). The cost of the order is estimated at 2.5 billion. euro.
The steel cutting ceremony for the construction of the K-130 second series lead corvette, (F-265) "Cologne", took place on February 7, 2019. On April 25, 2019, the keel laying ceremony of this ship was held. The keel laying of the second corvette, (F-266) "Emden", took place on January 30, 2020, the third, (F267) "Karlsruhe", – on October 6, 2020, the fourth, (F268) "Ausburg", – in July 2021. At the beginning of 2022, the construction of the fifth ship, Lubeck, began.
As planned, deliveries of German Navy ships will begin in 2022 and will be completed by 2026.
As part of the agreement, Lurssen is building the bow sections of two ships in Bremen, and three German Naval Yards Kiel GmbH – in Kiel-Gaarden. The Peene-Werft facility in Wolgast, which is also owned by Lurssen, is building the aft sections of all five ships. All five corvettes will be assembled, equipped and launched at Blohm + Voss NVL in Hamburg. They will also leave Hamburg for the tests.
Lurssen company in October last year was reorganized into a division of yacht building and military shipbuilding. The latter is the responsibility of the Naval Vessels Lurssen group.
In September 2020, the Swedish company Saab announced the receipt of an order worth 1.7 billion. Swedish kronor (about 194 million dollars) for the supply of RBS-15 RCC to equip the K-130 corvettes of the second series of the German Navy. Deliveries are scheduled for 2022-2026. Atlas Elektronik and Thales Deutschland have signed a contract for the supply of a combat control system for K-130 corvettes.
