Western sanctions against the Russian Federation forced the Russian aviation industry to look for a replacement for imported components and assemblies. Rostec, which is facing this problem acutely, called the delivery date of the first six MS-21 aircraft with domestic engines.
Such a message at the "government hour" in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation was made by the head of the state corporation Sergey Chemezov.
He said that the first MS-21 equipped with Russian-made PD-14 engines will be delivered to airlines in 2024.

Chemezov also said that about the same time it is planned to start production of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft with domestic PD-8 powerplants. The Russian aviation industry plans to make them by 20 units annually. Earlier, the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slyusar, stated that manufacturers can produce thirty such aircraft per year, and are "technologically" able to increase their number to 40 units.
Before the West imposed its restrictions, the UAC was going to start delivering the MS-21 this year. It was planned to transfer four cars to the Rossiya company, which is part of the Aeroflot group, but this was prevented by the cessation of deliveries of imported parts and assemblies, the share of which in the design of the aircraft is now about half of the total number.
The MS-21 belongs to the class of medium-haul passenger aircraft. Its maximum capacity is 211 people.
