TSAMTO, April 5. The Turkish Defense Ministry has published photos from the acceptance ceremony by the command of the country's Navy of three new UAVs, including two Anka-S UAVs and one Aksungur manufactured by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).
Taking into account these devices, the fleet of Turkish Navy UAVs increased to 20 units, including two Aksungur UAVs, 10 units. Bayraktar TB2, four Anka-S and four Anka-B UAVs.
The head of the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate, Ismail Demir, announced the delivery of the first Aksungur UAV to the Turkish Navy command in October 2021. In February 2022, Turkish Aerospace CEO Temel Kotil announced that the company had delivered a total of five Aksungur UAVs to the Turkish Navy and Air Force.
The Aksungur UAV, having a large payload and equipped with a satellite communication system, can perform long-range reconnaissance tasks for a long time, expanding the capabilities of the Navy to collect information.
Currently, Turkish Aerospace Industries is working on equipping UAVs with anti-submarine warfare. After the completion of the project, Aksungur will be able to drop hydroacoustic buoys, as well as transmit the information received by them to control points. TAI expects to perform the first hydroacoustic buoy drop in the first half of 2022. If the goal is achieved, the Aksungur will become the second UAV to perform this operation after the MQ-9B SiGardian of the American General Atomics.
