Russia to hold talks with Argentina and Africa on Spektr-M tracking stations
Russia wants to build tracking stations for the Spectrum-M astrophysical space observatory in Argentina and Africa. This was reported to TASS by the head of the FIAN astrocosmic Center Sergey Likhachev.
"Negotiations are underway with Argentina in the Southern Hemisphere or possibly South Africa and other African countries," the head said.
In February, Academician Lev Zeleny, Deputy Chairman of the RAS Space Council, said that the Spektr-UV space telescope would allow observation in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum, which is inaccessible for observations from Earth.
In November 2021, Deputy Director of FIAN Larisa Likhacheva said at a meeting of the RAS Council on Space [...] that the Russian space telescope Spektr-M would be 100 times cheaper than the American James Webb orbital laboratory.
The Russian space telescope "Millimetron" ("Spektr-M") is designed to explore the Universe in the millimeter and infrared ranges (at wavelengths from 0.02 to 17 millimeters). In 2013, the observatory was planned to be launched in 2019. Currently, the launch is scheduled for the early 2030s.
