MURMANSK, February 22. /tass/. The warships and submarines of the Northern Fleet (SF) returned to their bases after the exercises that took place in the Barents Sea. This was reported on Tuesday in the press service of the fleet.
"Surface ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet, which took part in exercises in the Barents Sea with missile firing, arrived at permanent bases," the report says.
Representatives of the fleet clarified that the Admiral Gorshkov frigate was one of the last to be moored at the pier, which successfully carried out missile firing at coastal and naval targets. Also, the flagship of the SF arrived at the base - the heavy nuclear missile cruiser "Peter the Great", the large anti-submarine ship "Severomorsk" and the large amphibious ship "Alexander Otrakovsky", which worked out artillery firing at sea and air targets in the Barents Sea as part of the ship's combat training course.
"The crews of all ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet have begun preparations for the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day. On February 23, soldiers from the North Sea will take part in ceremonial formations, and flags of flourishing will be raised on warships and support vessels along with the state flag," the press service of the SF noted.
The exercises of the Northern Fleet began on February 15, in total, up to 20 ships and support vessels and more than 10 naval aviation aircraft of the fleet were involved in the Barents Sea. As part of the diverse forces of the SF in the Barents Sea, the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, other warships, nuclear and diesel-electric submarines operated.
