TSAMTO, February 22. BAE Systems has announced the first dive of a new Anson-class nuclear submarine (NPS), built under contract with the British Navy, which took place at the Devonshire Dock in Barrow-in-Furness.
During the tests, the Anson submarine was completely submerged under water. At the same time, the team checked the on-board systems. The tests demonstrated the safety and stability of the submarine in the water. During the tests, more than 60 crew members were on board.
According to the commander of the Anson, David Crosby, trim and immersion in the dock are an important stage for the adoption of the submarine into service. This will allow you to set the center of gravity of the vessel, the exact weight, check the water resistance of the hull, test sensors and part of the systems before the first sea trials.
As reported by TSAMTO, BAE Systems is to build 7 Estiute class submarines for the British Navy. The lead submarine of the series, (S119) "Estiute", was laid down on January 31, 2001 and officially transferred to the British Navy in November 2010. The second submarine, (S120) Embush, joined the Navy on March 1, 2013, the third, (S121) Artful– on March 18, 2016, the fourth, (S122) Odeyshes, on September 23, 2021.
The laying of the keel "Anson" took place in October 2011. The baptism ceremony was held in a limited format on December 11, 2020, and the launch took place on April 20, 2021.
The 6th "Agamemnon" and 7th "Agincourt" submarines of the series are also in different stages of construction at the enterprise in Barrow-in-Furness. As planned, the last Estiute-class submarine will be transferred to the British Navy in 2026.
97-meter 7,400-ton "Estiute" class submarines are the largest and most powerful multipurpose submarines of the British Navy. They are designed both for actions as part of the fleet and in isolation from the main forces and can be used to perform tasks of fighting enemy ships and submarines, attacking ground targets, landing MTR groups and collecting intelligence information. The submarines are armed with the Tomahawk missile System (TLAM) and heavy Sperfish torpedoes. The submarines will provide protection for the new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, as well as the existing Vanguard and advanced Dreadnought submarines of the British Navy.
