A military plane crashed in the Iranian city of Tabriz in the province of East Azerbaijan.
The head of the Crisis Management Department of the province of East Azerbaijan, Muhammad Bagher Honarbar, said that the plane crashed into a car and the wall of the school building, where there were no students at that time.
The F-5 fighter jet crashed near the school and gym, which were closed at that time. As a result of the fall, three people were killed — two pilots and one citizen who was in the car. The crashed fighter took off from the Shahid Fakuri base in Tabriz.
The commander of the Shahida Fakuri airbase in Tabriz, General Reza Yousefi, noted that the pilot of the crashed plane prevented a great tragedy by sending the plane into a deserted area.
"Our pilots sent the plane to a deserted area, as the crash site is a densely populated area, although they could have saved themselves," he added.
The plane disappeared during a training mission, and due to technical problems, the pilot was unable to land the fighter on the runway, IRNA reports.
Currently, rescuers have gone to the scene, an investigation is underway.
