Rheinmetall has introduced the Lynx 120 light tank
Rheinmetall has introduced a new model from the Lynx family of armored vehicles. The Lynx 120 combat vehicle received a smoothbore tank gun. This is stated in a message on the company's website.
The light tank is based on the chassis of the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The combat module of the BMP was replaced with a new turret with a 120 mm smoothbore gun, which is used in the Leopard 2 tank. The ammunition of the vehicle includes high-explosive DM11 shells with programmable detonation. The car also received two machine guns.
The Lynx 120 is equipped with an all-round camera system that allows you to automatically detect and track targets. The ballistic protection of the machine is provided by modular elements. The Lynx 120 can also carry an active protection complex.
The Lynx BMP was developed in 2015. The car weighing 44 tons received an engine with a capacity of 1156 horsepower. The maximum speed of the BMP is 70 kilometers per hour. The standard KF41 armor provides protection against medium-caliber ammunition and shrapnel.
In January, Hanhwa Defense demonstrated a light tank based on the K21 BMP. The combat vehicle received a turret with a 105 mm caliber gun.
In December, Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial director of the Rostec cluster of armaments, ammunition and special chemicals, spoke about the start of the preparation of the production of the Octopus-SDM1 light tank.
