Izvestia: The American HIMARS system poses a danger to Crimea and Kaliningrad
The American rocket and artillery system of high mobility High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) in Europe may pose a danger to Russia. This was reported by Izvestia.
The publication noted that the installation mounted on a light armored truck is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers. "This exceeds, for example, the distance from the coast of Romania to the Crimea. And such missile systems deployed in Poland can reach any point in the Kaliningrad region," the publication says.
Currently, the United States is testing a promising Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) with a range of at least 499 kilometers, the article said.
"Of course, missile systems, although not located on the territory of Ukraine, pose the greatest threat to us. They allow you to strike at a distance, in addition, they can be easily transferred to any point in the region, bringing them closer to our southern borders," Inna Vetrenko, head of the Department of Management and Social Technologies of the Northwestern Institute of RANEPA, told the publication.
In November 2020, Forbes magazine reported that as part of training maneuvers, the US military relocated two HIMARS combat vehicles to Romania, after which they fired several missiles into the air and returned the installations to Germany.
In December 2019, Brigadier General John Rafferty said that in the European theater of hypothetical military operations, the PrSM surface-to-surface missile being developed for the US Army would become a "killer" of Russian air defense systems, while in the Pacific Ocean, Chinese warships would become the target of weapons.
